It was one hell of a party out there □įYI: on THE DAY of the announcement the Bobcats sold over a MILLION dollars worth of season tickets which is more than they did ALL last off season. a mob forms in the lobby as people crash to the front of the line desperately hoping they get one of the new “Back The Buzz” shirts. He then tells the crowd through the jumbotron as applause and cheers erupted that “this afternoon, we have just submitted our application to the Board of Governors for a name change to the “Charlotte Hornets” starting the 2014-15 season”.īobcat Staff immediately runs around the arena handing out pamphlets that ironically say “Back The Buzz ” as the light boards around the ceiling flash in purple to the same familiar phrase. The arena fell silent as we waited for Jordan to speak. We got our first response from the Bobcats May 21st when over a hundred people filed into Time Warner Cable Arena for the draft lottery party and right before the lottery was to start Michael Jordan held one of his very rare public press conferences. We wanted change, we demanded change, and we got it! We were all anxious and demanding some form of change after a hugely disappointing but not hugely surprising season. With the end of the last Bobcats game and the beginning of the playoffs every Bobcat fan was waiting with bated breath to see what the next move was. Some want to create a new look for the Hornets. IMO if you use one, you have to use the other. Remember Carolina Blue was a part of the original Hornets scheme but it was only appropriate because Alexander Julian also threw in the Duke Blue in respect to both teams that created a rich college basketball history in this state. I don’t think that is appropriate until we have some real proof that they are indeed going with this Blue. A lot of people have asked us to start a push at the Bobcats to make sure this happens. I personally can only hope and pray that it is teal. This being said who knows what the Marketing department is thinking and has planned for the future Hornets. You have to admit it would be too much going on for right now.įor the time being this gives the instant memory of the Hornets without interfering with their aesthetic appeal for the last season. In my opinion I think this a just a transitional color for this year because the Bobcats already have a Carolina Blue in their scheme and it would really clash if you saw the cheerleaders wearing Bobcats shorts which are Carolina blue and then a teal shirt. With the upcoming name change a lot of people are showing concern because of the “Buzz City” campaign is more of a Carolina Blue & Purple as opposed to the classical Teal & Purple we are all so fond of. it wasn’t extreme enough for us not to consider it teal or get upset. Anybody who remembers the Hornets noticed a slight change in the Teal of the jerseys through out the years.
